Welcome to the high road. Pull up a chair.
An introduction to this space, the people who made it necessary, and all the things we're going to talk about.
There's a particular kind of person that I've been lucky enough to know in my life.
You probably know one too. Maybe a few, if fortune has been generous with you. They're not the loudest ones (although sometimes they can be). Not necessarily the most decorated or the most followed or the ones with the most impressive thing after their name. They're the ones who just — are. Steadily. Quietly (or loudly). With this unshakeable sense of themselves that doesn't need an audience to stay intact.
They keep their word. They're kind to people who can't do a single thing for them. They do the right thing when nobody's watching and the harder thing when it would be so much easier not to. They don't tear people down. They show up. They stay. They tell you the truth, and they do it with such genuine care that you don't even mind hearing it.
I have been shaped, more than anything else in my life, by people like that.
This brand — this whole space — is because of them. The High Road Company is my thank you. My tribute. My attempt to build something worthy of the standard they set and the example they lived. I don't know that I'll ever fully get there. But I intend to spend a long time trying.
And here's the thing that really settled it for me — life is short. I mean that in the least cliché way possible, because I know we've all heard it so many times it's started to sound like a bumper sticker. But it's true and it's worth sitting with. Nothing is promised. Not tomorrow, not next year, not the next conversation with someone you love. The people who inspired this brand taught me that too — some of them by living long beautiful lives I got to witness, and some of them by leaving too soon and reminding me in the most permanent way possible that waiting is a luxury we don't always have. So why not build the thing? Why not honor the people worth honoring while you can? Why not live as fully and intentionally as possible, right now, with what you have? I couldn't come up with a single good reason not to. So here we are.
So what is this place, exactly?
I'm glad you asked. Let me tell you.
This is a lifestyle brand and a blog and a creative studio and an ongoing love letter to the kind of life worth living — all wrapped up in one place that I hope feels like somewhere you actually want to be. It's a lot of things. I'm a lot of things. I've stopped apologizing for that.
Here's what you'll find here:
Small-batch apparel made with intention. Limited runs of pieces we actually love. Nothing mass produced, nothing trendy for the sake of trendy, nothing you'll see coming and going on every corner. When something sells out it's gone, because that's part of the point. We also take custom commissions — apparel and art — for the moments and the people that deserve something made just for them. More on all of that soon.
A blog about everything that makes life feel full.
And I do mean everything. Strap in.
The things I love. Honestly and without apology.
I spend a lot of time outside. On trails and in parks and in the backyard at golden hour when the light is doing something so beautiful it almost feels personal. Nature has this way of reminding you that you are small and the world is enormous and somehow that is the most comforting thing imaginable. I walk. I hike. I walk slowly on purpose sometimes just to actually see things. I sit somewhere quiet and breathe and let my nervous system remember what it feels like to not be in a hurry.
And then there's the water.
If you're someone who feels it too — that particular pull toward any body of water, the way something in you exhales the second you can hear it or see it or feel it — then you already know what I'm talking about and I don't need to explain it. The ocean, a lake, a river, even a good creek — something about being near water rearranges me in the best possible way. It slows me down. It clears things out. It puts everything back in the right order. I grew up understanding that water is where you go when you need to think, or when you need to stop thinking, or when you just need to be somewhere that reminds you the world is much bigger and older and more beautiful than whatever is stressing you out today. I will be talking about this a lot. We might be by the water while we talk about it.
Fitness matters to me — not in a punishing, aesthetic-obsessed way, but in a this body carries me through my whole life and I want to honor that way. Moving feels good. Being strong feels good. Showing up for yourself consistently, even when you don't feel like it, feels really good. We'll talk about that too.
Nutrition is something I genuinely find fascinating. The connection between what we eat and how we feel and think and move — it's everything. I care about eating well, about understanding what I'm putting in my body and why, about food that actually nourishes you instead of just filling a gap. But I also believe with my whole heart that food is one of life's great pleasures and it should stay that way. Balance. Always balance.
Which brings me to baking and cooking — two of my greatest loves. I will spend an entire Saturday afternoon making something from scratch that a reasonable person might have solved in twenty minutes with a shortcut and I will feel zero regret about it. There is something so satisfying and so grounding about making food with your hands. About the smell of something in the oven. About feeding people. About a really good cookie. Speaking of which — if you know, you know — Biscoff. The cookie. The spread. The whole world that Biscoff has built. Life-changing. I will not be elaborating further except to say that if you haven't tried them, please go immediately and correct that. Recipes, kitchen adventures, and probably an unreasonable number of baked goods will be making regular appearances here.
Music. Oh, music. I don't know how to talk about this one without going on for a very long time so I'll just say this: music is not background noise to me. It is a whole entire thing. Old school everything — the kind of music that was made when people really meant it, when you could feel the room in the recording, when lyrics were written like someone's life depended on getting the words exactly right. Motown. Classic country. Old soul. The stuff that sounds like it was made for driving with the windows down on a road that goes somewhere worth going. But also — yes, sometimes mainstream. Sometimes whatever is playing everywhere right now finds you at the exact right moment and earns its place. I won't be a snob about it. Good music is good music and I'll tell you about all of it.
Reading. Books. The kind you hold in your hands and dog-ear the pages of and leave on the nightstand until the stack gets genuinely precarious. Ideally read near a window, or better yet, near water. There is nothing like a good book and nothing like the particular quiet of being completely absorbed in someone else's world for a few hours. I read across genres and I read slowly and I have opinions. Those will make their way here.
Art and creating. Making things. Designing things. Building something that didn't exist before you touched it. This is one of the most deeply human impulses there is and I think we should lean into it hard. Whether it's something you've been doing your whole life or something you picked up last Tuesday — make things. It matters more than you think.
And quality time. Real quality time. The kind where phones are face-down and the conversation goes three hours past when anyone intended to leave and nobody minds. Good people, good food, a good playlist in the background — that combination is one of the great gifts of being alive. Even better if there's water nearby. Everything is better if there's water nearby. I will champion all of it always.
What makes us different.
Honestly? We're not trying to be for everyone. We're not chasing a trend cycle. We're not manufacturing content to feed an algorithm or building a brand that photographs beautifully but doesn't mean anything when you actually look at it.
We are building something real. Something that means something. Something rooted in the belief that how you live matters — what you eat, how you move, what you make, who you spend your time with, and above all, the kind of person you choose to be when it costs you something to be that person.
The apparel is limited because we'd rather make fewer things well. The blog is honest because we'd rather say something true than something popular. The custom work is personal because that's the only way it's worth doing. And this whole space exists because some extraordinary people lived in a way that deserved to be honored — and I couldn't think of a better way to do it than to build something that tries, every single day, to reflect what they taught me.
Our kind of people.
You're our kind of people if you've ever chosen the harder right thing over the easier wrong one and felt good about it even though it cost you something.
You're our kind of people if you have too many hobbies and a to-be-read pile that has genuinely gotten out of hand and a playlist for every mood and strong feelings about what makes a really good meal.
You're our kind of people if you feel something shift in you when you get near the water — ocean, lake, river, it doesn't matter — and you've stopped trying to explain it to people who don't feel it because some things you just have to understand from the inside.
You're our kind of people if you believe that a great life is a full one. Full of movement and music and good food and time outside and water and books and creativity and people worth keeping and cookies — definitely cookies.
You're our kind of people if there is someone in your life — a parent, a grandparent, a mentor, a friend, a teacher, anyone — who taught you by the way they lived what it actually looks like to be a person of real character. If someone like that shaped you the way those people shaped me, then you already understand why this place exists.
This whole thing is for them. And I have a feeling it might be for you too.
Stick around.
Here's what I keep coming back to, the thing that got me off the fence and into actually building this: life is short and nothing is promised and the people who taught me the most about how to live didn't get as much time as they deserved. Some of them are still here and I get to love them in real time, which I do not take for granted for a single second. Some of them are gone and the missing of them is the kind that doesn't go away, it just changes shape over time.
Both of those things — the gratitude and the grief — pointed me in the same direction. Do the thing. Build the thing. Say thank you in the most meaningful way you know how. Don't wait until it's perfect. Don't wait until the timing is right. Don't wait at all, actually, because waiting is a luxury none of us are guaranteed.
So this is me, not waiting. This is The High Road Company, built with love and intention for the best people I know and the best people I hope to meet — which, if you've read this far, might just include you.
There's so much coming. New pieces, new posts, new recipes, new playlists, new creative projects, new reasons to spend time here. We are just getting started and I am genuinely, completely excited about every bit of it.
If something here lands for you — a piece, a post, a recipe, a single sentence — I want to hear about it. Reach out. Comment. Tag us. Tell a friend who you think belongs here. We're building a community of people who take the high road and we would love for you to be part of it.
Welcome. Really and truly.
Now let's get into it.
— The High Road Company
